The Not-to-be-missed Vending Quarter in Bangkok â€“ the Banglamphu District

Located at the eastern side of the Ko Rattanakosing, the Banglamphu district has some great sight seeing spots. The Banglamphu district does not have very certain boundaries, and thus, the sight seeing spots like the Wat Saket and the Wat Suthat are at times considered not to be inside of Banglamphu.

The Banglamphu Khao San is approximately a ten minute stroll north to the Sanam Luang, in Ko Rattanakosing. The place is quite famous for travelers and offers some affordable budget lodging. Even if you decide not to reside here for your trip, it is still worth seeing once. There are many people who love it, while there are as many who hate it too. Banglamphu has got a good market place that offers all sorts of products at affordable rates. You can shop for inexpensive local products here like clothes and handicrafts. The sheer variety of different people transacting in this place makes it a worthwhile trip.

The democracy monument is only about a five minutes’ walk from the Banglamphu Khao San road. At twenty four meters it is quite tall, and it signifies the changeover in Thailand from an absolute monarchy towards a more constitutional monarchy. The Wat Bowonniwet is just north-west of the Khao San and is the residence of the Thammayut Monastic sect, along with the second Buddhist university of Bangkok.

Down on the Ratchadamnoen road is the Wat Ratchanada with the adjacent Loha Prasat. Wat Ratchanada has a somewhat interesting small amulet market in its yards. There are many different ranges here, and there are also some that sell at thousands of Bahts if considered worthy. Even if you do not buy, the process is somewhat entertaining. Another notable spot in the Banglamphu is the Metal Castle near Loha Prasat. This is an ornamented metal structure of many levels with spires and this can be said to appear like a marriage cake with spires resembling candles.

The Banglamphu district is very well known for the Bangkok serviced apartments available in the area. The Royal President Bangkok located close to this attraction is a serviced apartment offering courteous service and great comforts.

about to go on ROYAL CARIBBEAN cruise–food/drink question….?

I was told there are absolutely no soda/vending machines on these cruise ships. For those who have been on such cruises before, is this information correct? (I don’t own credit cards and therefore cannot “register” one up front like most people do in order to make purchases on the ship….)

You can buy a soda card/cup for a flat fee that is good for the whole trip. Check with your travel agent or call the cruise line. Also, you can also make a cash deposit at embarkation and get a refund of unused money at the end of the trip.

FYI smuggling sodas onboard is easier than booze

Additionally, coffee hot and cold teas, lemonade, punch, milk are all free
