Designing Milk Pitcher: Need Opinions/ Ideas please?
My design began when I realized an unopened gallon of milk will last past the expiration date, while an open gallon can go bad over a week before the date. I believe this happens because as soon as you open a gallon of milk, the jug will trap air inside along with the milk causing it to spoil. (I’d love someone to varify this!) I want to design a milk pitcher that eliminates the milk’s contact with air; I think the milk will stay fresh for quite a few days longer. This could be a large benefit to the singles market, because it is very hard to finish a gallon of milk by yourself before it goes bad. So I’m thinking either an accordion/collapsable style design that you would push down on and it would stay down and only hold the milk or some sort of vacuum seal design? Any ideas on ways to create a shrinking milk pitcher that keeps all air out, or anyone who would like to testify that their milk goes bad before they finish it or ways to keep it fresh would be great.
you should take a look at the 3 quart size “wine in a box” that they sell in the grocery stores and liqueur stores. they already have a method to keep the air off the wine as it is used slowly over days or weeks. air ruins wine overnight . They could use the same exact package for milk. all they would have to do is change the printing on the box. It even has a little knob that opens a valve to fill your glass. The wine is in a plastic bag inside the rigid cardboard box. and collapses as the liquid drains out of it through the twist turn dispensing spout at the bottom of the box. You don’t even have to pick up the box. Go take a look at it. The air never touches the liquid. you could even put your own milk in it to test your theory. Good luck!
