All of J.P. Licks’ coffee is made from fair-trade and organic beans that they roast at their flagship store in Jamaica Plain.

The Harvard Square store, which opened in June, did a brisk trade this summer and is hoping to continue in the same fashion through the colder months with “warmer” offerings such as coffee. The $1 coffee promotion is meant to create more awareness of the new store itself and all that J.P. Licks has to offer – from special blend coffees to a full Espresso Bar, hot chocolate and fresh baked treats including muffins, breads, scones and cookies.

What makes coffee from a diner better than home brewed?

I live in NJ, official home of the diner. You can stand at the door of a diner, throw a rock and hit another diner. They all have delicious coffee. What are they doing different? Does it have to do with the coffee sitting around on the warmers?

Probably because they’ve been using the same brand of coffee and the same pots for years. It’s kind of like getting eggs off the grill…they always taste a little bit like the onion and all the rest of the food that’s been cooked on there from a minute ago to 50 years ago.

Always glad to see when they don’t serve that road tar that people call coffee. I like a strong cup as much as the next guy, but who really likes paying $4 for a cup of dino-piss?

Gotta love a diner…Mastori’s is Mid-way (maybe a little south of that) from Philly to NYC on Route 130/206 in Bordentown (Exit 7 off the NJTPK I think?). Good coffee but they have BANGIN rolls and danishes that they bring out before the meal. One of the best diners in NJ in my opinion. Do yourself a favor if you’ve never been.
